Rescue Rick (sm) - Opera

The Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Opera

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) has written a very short opera to tell his story and express the pain and emotions associated with his lawn mower accident.  The opera is a combination of an opera buffa (comedy) and verismo (real story).  In an operatic baritone voice, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) belts out the aria "I Cut Off My Big Toe and Some."  Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) is truly a renaissance yardman.  The libretto (text) is provided below:

"I Cut Off My Big Toe and Some"

I cut the grass.
I slipped.
I cut off my big toe.
I mulched my foot.
My shoe was mulched to shreds.
My wallet was mulched as well.
I pushed back the skin on the top of my foot.
I was in shock.
I almost lost consciousness.
My foot was a bloody mess.
It hurt.
Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.
I yelled Help Help Help with no response.
I became calm and composed.
I ran instinctively to get help.
Rescue Rick was rescued.
Go get my big toe.
Morphine.
Antibiotics.
Surgery.
Recovery.
I wear special shoes.
I have a dream also.
Innovate and create.
Educate and communicate.
Entertain and impact.
Prevent yard accidents.

Think before you cut. It hurts! (tm)

Rescue Rick (sm) - Comedy

Comedian Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man

What did the bartender say to the fresh-cut blade of grass?

"You are cut-off now."

(NOTE:  NEVER drink alcohol while operating outdoor power equipment!  Likewise, NEVER operate outdoor power equipment while under the influence of alcohol.  And, donít make MADD - Mothers Against Drunk Driving - mad!)

"Don't drive or operate anything under the influence of alcohol." - Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (RRtGCM)

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) is a performing artist. The purpose of the show is to introduce humor and laughter to present my gruesome lawn mower accident story and teach yard safety awareness. In essence, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) is the grass cut comic. I want someone to think about the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) yard safety awareness campaign before they grass cut the next time. Thus, I strive to prevent people from having outdoor power equipment accidents. Please be safe. In a split-second, you can hurt yourself or someone nearby. Also, life can be short; you can die from grass cutting. Nonetheless, there is still grass to cut in cemeteries. Grass cut and have fun. Laugh a little. Laugh your graaaaaaaaassssssss off. Think before you cut. It hurts. (tm)

"Tiny Tim played a ukulele.  Henny Youngman played a violin.  Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (RRtGCM) makes music with his toy lawn mower." Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm)

Rescue Rick (sm) - Poetry

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm), has written a trilogy of poems that together communicate the unified message of yard safety, including the advancement of his awareness and prevention themes.  The first poem "Lawn Manicure" is a haiku that focuses on the natural aspects of grass with a subtle safety message.  The second poem "Birth of Rescue Rick" is a limerick that light-heartedly introduces our yard safety super hero Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm).  The third poem "Yard Safety Awareness" is a rhythmic poem that communicates a first-hand experience of a lawn mower amputee and crescendos to spur a collaborative effort to create awareness regarding yard accidents and to communicate a safety message to eliminate yard accidents, in particular, outdoor power equipment accidents.

Lawn Manicure (Haiku)
By Richard Mudrinich

Growing grass needs cut,
Mowers mulch blades of grass only
Creating beauty.

Birth of Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (Limerick)
By Richard Mudrinich

There once was a man
Who was a grass-cutting fan.
He cut off his big toe
Screaming oh no!
And hence was born Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man.

Yard Safety Awareness (Poem)
By Richard Mudrinich

Think before you cut. It hurts!
Sometimes even blood spurts.
You go to the emergency room.
You sometimes go to the operating room.

You become dependent on the care of a medical professional.
Sometimes even congressional.
It costs everyone a lot of money.
It is far from funny.

Sometimes you yell ouch
Spending many hours at home on the couch.
After the accident things are not the same.
Life presents you with a new and different game.

Many people want to prevent a yard tragedy.
Many medical professionals work in harmony.
Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man is here today
So that yard accidents go away.

Think before you cut.  It hurts!
Think before you cut.  It hurts!

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man  has written some Yard Safety Nursery Rhymes to educate and entertain individuals and families of all shapes and sizes.  It is easier to prevent a yard accident than to put the pieces back together.  As with the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme, we cannot always put the pieces back into place.

Hickory Dickory Rock
By Richard Mudrinich

Hickory, dickory, dock
the lawn mower threw a rock.
Little lawn helper got hit in the head
big bump formed and face really bled.
Rescue Rick is here today
So that yard accidents go away.

Hey Lawn Mower Riddle
By Richard Mudrinich

Hey diddle diddle,
the yard safety riddle,
the weedeater jumped over the moon.
The blade of grass laughed too soon
mulched into bird food.
Rescue Rick, Tripod, and MowBoVatar care
about yard safety awareness and welfare.

Rick Be Nimble
By Richard Mudrinich

Rick be nimble.
Rick be quick (not quick enough).
Rick slipped under the lawn mower.
Rick big toe landed by a dandelion flower.

Cut, Cut, Cut Your Grass
By Richard Mudrinich

Cut, cut, cut your grass
Safely in the yard.
Safely, safely, safely, safely
Safety is a guard.

Baa, Baa Rescue Rick
By Richard Mudrinich

Baa, baa Rescue Rick
Have you any yard safety.
Yes sir, yes sir
Three bags full of safety.

One for homeowners
One for landscapers
And one for little lawn helpers
Who live down the lane.

Rescue Rick (sm) - Fashion

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) prepares for the fashion runway.  I lived in New York City for a decade, and I made some friends in fashion.  I have designed the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Fashion Collection (tm) of fashion products to give people a wardrobe that communicates their concerns for yard safety.  I want to strut my stuff on the catwalk as a super hero super model (laugh).  In essence, I want to try a few different approaches in getting the attention of the general public, so they will think twice before they cut the grass.  Lawn mower accidents happen in a split-second, often resulting in a life-altering outcome that sometimes includes amputation.  I learned this from first-hand experience when I amputated part of my left foot while cutting the grass.

Also, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) proposes the establishment of the Amputee Fashion Show (tm).  The event will showcase clothes and items designed by amputees and modeled by amputees.  The Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Fashion Collection (tm) will be featured.

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) paints with his altered left foot and his right hand (in sections of paintings involving more detail).  The Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Artwork (tm) communicates a message of yard safety, in particular grass cut safety (tm).  Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) attaches the paintbrush to his partially amputated left foot to fill the void and channel his passion for safety through his foot on to the canvas.  In addition, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) continues to explore other fine art forms, such as sculpture, pottery, etc.  For information on the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Artwork (tm), please contact Richard Mudrinich (RRtGCM) at (703) 851-9105.

Rescue Rick (sm) - Dance

Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) has developed an innovative freestyle dance, called the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Dance (tm).  The modern dance tells the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) yard accident story and presents a few yard safety tips.  Likewise, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) has choreographed a buzzing community dance called the Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man Buzz Cut Boogie (tm) to cut a rug in dance clubs.  It is fun and simple to do, yet creates the yard safety awareness in a memorable and interactive manner.  In addition, Rescue Rick the Grass Cut Man (sm) wants to communicate the yard safety awareness message via other dance styles, such as ballet, jazz, tap, etc.  Dance. Dance. Dance.
